Frequently Asked Questions

What is hospice care?

Hospice is not here to cure a terminal illness but rather focuses on caring for a patient’s overall physical, mental, spiritual and emotional well-being, while managing symptoms of a terminal illness.

Who qualifies for hospice care?

Hospice care is available for patients with a life expectancy of six months or less, as determined by your doctor and a hospice medical director

Who decides when it is time for hospice?

The decision is made together with you, your physician and your loved ones. Once you begin hospice, you can make the decision to stop care at any time if you change your mind or decide to seek treatments to cure a terminal illness.

Does hospice shorten a person's life?

No, this is a common false assumption. Hospice can often lengthen life, by offering additional support to family and caregivers, as well as the patient.

How is hospice paid for?

Hospice is 100% covered by Medicare. There are no out of pocket costs for you or your loved ones. Ask us about other insurance options.
